As it stands Super Smash Bros Ultimate has 73 unique characters and fighters and I wanted to go over a number of fighters I think should be playable characters. The main goal is to beef up the roster for certain franchises, or characters I think deserve to be a playable Smash character do to popular demand, possible move sets and popular demand. Granted some are announced assist trophies and we'll probably never be playable, but I still think should have been made playable. I would definitely like to hear other peoples suggestions and why they think the characters should be included and am open to amending the list. I'll largely be going down the list based on franchise.
Super Mario Brothers
- Waluigi is an obvious choice simply because he's the odd man out when it comes to Super Mario characters and he's been a highly requested character.
- Captain Toad especially considering the long history of Toads in the franchise and considering you now have Captain Toad with his own game only seems appropriate he be a playable fighter.
- Geno while not one of my personal favorites to see join the roster he is a very popular character people want to see join Smash and apparently Sakurai himself has wanted him in since Brawl.
Donkey Kong
- Dixie Kong is mainly to beef up the Donkey Kong representation in the game. Considering she was a playable character in Donkey Kong Country 2 and could be implemented as an echo fighter of Diddy Kong, but has the possibly for some unique moves and animations.
The Legend of Zelda
- Midna and Wolf Link would be the only character I'd consider adding simply because of how popular Midna is and the potential for unique move sets.
- Skull Kid with a Majora's Mask port on the 3DS recently and speculation as of late running rampant it wouldn't be crazy to see him added to Super Smash Bros.
Kirby
- Bandana Waddle Dee seems a highly requested character for Super Smash and could definitely add to the Kirby representation in the roster. I've also heard other names floated around like Marx, but I haven't played enough Kirby games to know other possible good fighters for the franchise.
Star Fox
- Krystal is the obvious first choice with her staff she could be the first Star Fox character not to be a clone with a unique move set and could certainly beef up the roster.
- Slippy while not the most requested could bring a very unique move set, or be a more heavy weight clone of other Star Fox characters.
Pokemon
- Decidueye seems like the most popular final evolution of a starter pokemon in the latest generation of Pokemon games and could make a good representative for the Alola region
- Blaziken is a Pokemon I often seen featured in Pokemon games and other media and being a fighting type feels like it would fit right into smash. It would also offer representation for the Hoenn region it would also round of the starter types presented. Greninja being Water type, Decidueye being Plant type, and Blaziken Fire type.
- Emboar could be an alternative for Blaziken that represents the Unova region and would uniquely be a heavy weight character to the roster.
- Genesect could really mix things up being a Bug and Steel type. Also he would provide representation for Unova if they go with Blaziken instead of Emboar
- Deoxys would be the inverse if they went with Emboar instead of Blaziken and would be part of the tradition of psychic types appearing in Pokemon games
F-Zero
- Samurai Goroh could definitely bring the representation for this franchise which is certainly lacking it. He's made regular appearances as an assist trophy and is probably the best known character besides the Captain Falcon himself from the F-Zero franchise.
Fire Emblem
- Lyn, I know a lot of you are groaning about how there are too many Fire Emblem characters and I frankly couldn't agree more, but if any Fire Emblem character deserves to be in Smash it is Lyndis. She is arguably the main character of Fire Emblem The Blazing Blade which was the first Fire Emblem game to come to North America. I feel like that alone makes Lyn deserving of being a playable character.
Animal Crossing
- Isabelle is a fan favorite and speculation is rampant she'll be playable my only thoughts are on what potential moveset she'll have
Punch-Out
- Doc Louis would make a great echo fighter of Little Mac and the fact he had his own downloadable game definitely adds credence to him being on the roster.
Xenoblade Chronicles
- Rex and Pyra to my chagrin I haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but from what I've been hearing Rex and Pyra are a popular choice and could beef up the franchise representation on the roster. From I've gathered these two characters would work best in tandem possibly with Pyra on the side supporting Rex like Pokemon trainer.
Sonic the Hedgehog
- Shadow is actually a character I genuinely believe will be announced as an echo fighter for Sonic. We haven't seen an assist trophy and he is practically Sonic's dark double in the franchise playing similarly in his debut game Sonic Adventure 2.
- Tails would frankly be the long shots of long shots mainly because to do him justice requires making him more than an echo and I don't think Nintendo wants too many third parties from a single franchise. Still I would personally like to see this character in the game.
Pac-Man
- Ms. Pac-Man she would make an obvious echo character although I'm not going to lie she would probably make for a better alternate costume for Pac-Man.
Street Fighter
- Ken just seems like a logical choice considering we're getting an echo fighter for Castlevania with Richter and if my assumption is right about Shadow could make third Party Echoes more common.
Golden Sun
- Isaac is a popular fan request and is a cool looking character. He'd also introduce a new franchise to the roster as well.
3rd Party Characters
- Shantae is an obvious choice for more 3rd party representation considering she is a fan favorite and has a lot of potential move set wise
- Shovel Knight while has been confirmed an assist trophy like Shantae has a lot of fan support and has a lot of potential move set wise.
This is my list so far I'd definitely like to hear peoples thoughts on it and why I shouldn't have left your favorite character out. I will say franchises I'd like to see more characters from, but couldn't think of any that could offer decent characters as fighters are F-Zero, Warioware, Animal Crossing, Earthbound, Kirby and others I can't think of at this moment.
Extra thoughts:
- I was thinking of possible Pikmin characters, but most wouldn't really have potential for unique move sets, or animations and frankly would be best left as alternate costumes for Olimar.
- Please no characters that don't have any origins in video games like Goku, or Shrek. I don't see how people seriously think they'll make it into Smash.
